The Last Traditional Cheshire Cheesemaker in Cheshire
A Legacy of Excellence Since 1750
Bournes Cheese is the only remaining producer of traditional Cheshire cheese located within the county of Cheshire. While other varieties are produced elsewhere, the Bourne family has maintained the heritage of authentic Cheshire cheese at The Bank Farm in Malpas for generations.
Our History and Heritage
The Bourne family’s cheesemaking lineage dates back to 1750. Since moving to the Bank Farm in 1930, we have specialized in the art of hand-crafted, cloth-bound Cheshire cheese. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, our cheese is made using the farm's own salt-marsh-fed milk and traditional starter cultures, ensuring a flavor profile that is synonymous with the region’s history.
As Seen on Channel 5
Our commitment to preserving British agricultural history has been featured on Channel 5’s Britain’s Most Scenic Counties and Friday on the Farm. These appearances highlight our unique status as the final guardians of the traditional Cheshire cheese-making process within the county of Cheshire.
What Makes Bourne’s Cheshire Unique?
- True Local Provenance: We are the last traditional cheesemakers actually based in Cheshire.
- Hand-Crafted Tradition: Every wheel is cloth-bound and turned by hand to achieve the perfect "crumbly" texture.
- Award-Winning Recipes: Our "1845" recipe uses heritage techniques to recreate the original taste of Cheshire’s most famous export.
Visit The Bank Farm: Located in the heart of Malpas, Cheshire, we continue to prove that the best cheese isn't just a product - it’s a piece of local history.

Welcome to Mrs Bourne's The Littlest Farm Shop
In December 2022 we opened our little shop. It really is very small but packed with fantastic local produce. We opened the shop to allow customers to come to the farm to collect their favourite Cheshire cheese but it quickly grew into a place for other local producers without their own shops to showcase their amazing produce.
We have a great selection of locally made food & crafts. Locally reared pork making excellent bacon, sausage & black pudding. Delicious award winning bread delivered once a week. Stunning pestos, locally grown salad & veg, oils, honey, jams & marmalades. Even par baked pizzas made by hand & topped with the best & fresh ingredients.
The list keeps growing!
Locally Made Produce.
We have worked hard to find the best of the best in Cheshire & just across the border into Wales.
A lot of the produce in our shop has won awards & our customers can tell why!
Supporting Local Business
Working with other local businesses is something we are very proud to do.
Supporting our little shop is also helping to support other local producers. The people we work with are so supportive & we all work together, bouncing ideas around & offering advice.
